POLYGLOT

INTERIOR FIT-OUT FOR POLYGLOT TECHNICAL COLLEGE IN DORA, BEIRUT.

JANUARY 2020

Our first completed project at home in Beirut is an #interiorfitout for #Polyglot technical college.

Since 1972 students have come to learn technical, digital, and language skills here. The school is located just off the infamous Dora roundabout connecting main transport arteries into and out of Lebanon’s capital city Beirut and to the North; arguably the most ethnically diverse and bustling hub in the country. The ages and backgrounds of students attending #Polyglot reflect the colourful diversity of Dora, and the wide variety of valuable, transferable skills taught here.

From languages to typing, translation, software, electronics maintenance and repair, nails & beauty to name a few, the curriculum here is ever evolving and the course offering, with their different entry levels, kept relevant and accessible. From 1:1 teaching to classroom settings, the new interiors encourage transparent and shared learning. The space is divided with natural Swedish #timber frames, supporting translucent, #polycarbonate walls.

Polycarbonate is a versatile, dependable, strong material used for thermal and sound #insulation while allowing light through. It is stronger, far lighter, and easier to implement than glass, and comes in clear #transparent, frosted translucent, or coloured varieties with different degrees of structural ribbing depending on need. The clear panels used here help keep sounds of the #classroom and neighbouring highway at bay, while maintaining visibility and a light, dynamic, welcoming reading through the space.
