COMPANY PROFILE

ARCHITECTURE & SPATIAL DESIGN BURO

MÜLLER APRAHAMIAN is an architecture and spatial design practice founded in Beirut by Adrian Muller and Arine Aprahamian in 2018. Working between Beirut, Rotterdam, and London, the studio engages in projects ranging from architecture and interiors to exhibition design, public installations, and material or object research.

The practice takes a context-driven and practical approach, with a close relationship between architectural thinking and the craft of making, developed through testing, prototyping, and collaboration with local craftspeople. They work at different scales and focus on understanding what already exists, aiming to use the transformative potential of design to develop projects that are clear, thoughtful, and grounded in the needs of the users and their surroundings.

FOUNDERS Arine Aprahamian & Adrian Muller

Muller and Aprahamian both received Bachelor degrees in Architecture from the American University of Beirut. Adrian Muller holds a Master of Fine Arts in Designed Objects and in Ceramics from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he received the New Artist Society Merit Scholarship. Arine Aprahamian received her Master of Architecture at UC Berkeley as a Fulbright Scholar.

They have both apprenticed with Pritzker-winning architects: Adrian Muller with the late Dame Zaha Hadid, and Arine Aprahamian as the 2023–2024 Rolex Protégée under Anne Lacaton of Lacaton+Vassal. Their previous experience also includes working with local design industry leaders such as Raed Abillama Architects and PS Lab.

With over a decade of experience—including commissioned work for the Tate Modern, the Venice Biennale, the Aichi Triennale, and the Whitney Museum, as well as proposals for labour housing, climate-adaptive dwellings, and digital spatial futures—the studio approaches materials, experience, and spatial design through a broad, cross-disciplinary lens.

Arine is based between Rotterdam and Beirut, while Adrian works between London and Beirut.

VISION & APPROACH

MÜLLER APRAHAMIAN approaches architecture as a meeting point between existing conditions, environmental awareness, material behaviour, and human experience. Their work focuses on:

  • The Value of the Existing: through retrofitting, adaptive reuse, and careful spatial optimization

  • Low-impact materials such as clay, terracotta, kershif and locally sourced earth systems

  • Industrial-Handmade: integration of craft and industry

  • Community-centered design and engagement

This approach allows the studio to work across different disciplines and scales, producing projects that are adaptable, contextually grounded, and environmentally responsive.
